Today seems to be an exciting day for COD fans. The first trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops featuring multiplayer has popped up all over the internet and the buzz is beginning to circulate.
But I’m not ready to jump into the waters of COD just yet, I’d rather stick my toe in the water first.
You see, for as long as I can remember COD on the Xbox 360 has been a love hate relationship for me. I loved COD2, hated COD3, loved COD4, hated COD: WaW. I’m sure by now you can see the pattern here.
Ever since the move was made to have Treyarch develop COD games on a every other game basis, I have lost respect for the series. Infinity Ward has done such a great job in fine tuning this game it’s a shame Treyarch has tainted it with their watered down versions of COD.
It seems as if Treyarch is not paying attention to the formula that IW has laid out. The answers are right in front of them! Stop trying to rock the boat with alterations to an already great engine and stick to what works!
Lets look at the trailer.
From the looks of it, the game looks very similar to the COD made by IW. Kill streaks are back and seem to have some new interesting additions. Also in the trailer we see an option to save replays and edit clips, great for those who are into making montages, but nothing really special for most hardcore gamers.
As far as this game goes on a competitive level, only one question remains, will this game support LAN play? This is something that has kept the COD franchise off the MLG circuit and other big events for quite some time. If Treyarch is even able to pull off an above average COD with LAN play, the game will most likely see a lot of tournaments and coverage.
Of course only time will tell if Treyarch can finally step out of the shadow of Infinity Ward or if this game is just ANOTHER first person war shooter that belongs in the bargain bin.
I’m surprised right now. Coming from the Gears of War community, I can’t believe this game is not getting more attention. In what most people are calling a “Gears of War ripoff”, Quantum Theory is set to release this October.
I can see where people would make the comparison to Gears. The game is a 3PS with style and gameplay that looks very similar. But ask youself this, is that really that bad?
Gears of War is one of the best games to hit Xbox 360 and I am surprised a company has not tried to follow their pattern yet. If this is indeed a Gears of War clone, I will be a very happy man. Lets look at the latest trailer.
I do have my worries though. As good as this trailer looks and how excited it makes me, it still does not make this a good game. Only playing this game and feeling the experience will determine that. I will have a full review in October when the game launches.
This past weekend kicked off the first event for the ECL, which stands for European Console League for those who don’t know. The tournament hosted games such as Super Street Fighter 4, Halo 3 & Gears of War (the first one not part 2).
The event was host to some big gaming organizations and it looked to be a success as there has already been talks of a second event.
YouTube user simons88 made a nice little video showing some of the players that attended this event. Enjoy!
I’ll take this time to chime in with my two cents on the event. For me personally, it was good to see ECL using Gears of War 1. In my opinion, this is the best game in that series and also the most competitive and it’s good to see a company not throw it aside just because a sequel was made.
Xbox 360 remains the dominant force in competitive console gaming showing no signs of letting up. PS3 just doesn’t have the titles like Halo and Gears of War to match up on a competitive level.
Good job ECL, I look forward to your future events.
Being in the competitive gaming scene, I get a lot of questions about live streaming events on websites such as UStream or Justin.TV. The most common is: What is the best capture card?
While I can’t give a direct answer to this question, I can drop a little knowledge on you. If you’re in the market for a new capture card and are looking to stream in High Definition then your options are limited to a few cards.
I’ve been to numerous tournaments and this seems to be the card everyone is using right now. Granted, you need a desktop capable of running such a demanding process, but if you have that than this should be the card on your mind.
It’s capable of capturing via HDMI or component via a breakaway cable for HD. So the next time you tune into Justin.TV or Ustream and see someone broadcasting in great quality, odds are they are using this card.
Hello everyone! We are just one day removed from another exciting event held by Console Warzone. The turnout and response to the event held at Realty’s Edge in North Arlington, NJ was fantastic.
30 fighters hailing from NJ & NY battled it out in Super Street Fighter 4 on the Xbox 360. At the end of the day, FYC MarlinPie playing for FYC-eSports was crowned the champion using both Cammy & C.Viper as his characters.
Below are the full results. We look forward to seeing everyone again at the next event at Reality’s Edge on August 28th.
